I graduated in civil engineering before undertaking postgraduate research in soil mechanics, both at Manchester University; this theme of investigation and assessment continued throughout my career. My subsequent experience was on projects in the UK, Africa and the Far East with major consulting engineering practices in which I have held senior technical and management roles. I worked on site at Dover on the Channel Tunnel project in the 1970s. Following a posting to South Africa to open an office in Johannesburg, I worked in Hong Kong on the feasibility study for the crossing to Lantau Island for the new airport. Returning to work in UK, I established a successful ground engineering business as part of a multi-disciplinary international consultancy, becoming a group board director with responsibilities ranging from support services to business management and client marketing.
I established my own practice in 1996 with special interest in the provision of expert opinion in failure investigations, claims and dispute resolution. I retired in 2008 aged 64 on diagnosis with Parkinson’s and have been an enthusiastic supporter of CPT ever since. I am married to Elaine and have a son and daughter, Mark and Emma, and four grandchildren: Ella, Magnus, Toby and Esther.
Andrew took part in a promotional video for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust to raise awareness and research funding. He regularly volunteers at our events with Elaine and they are an integral part of the CPT team.
